I'm considering replacing the volume potentiometer in a C-J PV-10B preamp. It's gotten noisy. I could try to clean it with some DeOxit, even take apart for examination and cleaning, but a new one is quite affordable. Can anyone please confirm the stock Alps part?Alps RK27. 50K audio/log taper. Six pins. Round shaft. 20mm or 25mm shaft length??
Thanks.

I asked C-J about the potentiometer in my PV-10B; I sent them pictures to help them ID the part. They replied that it looks like the original potentiometer.
So, that's good -- now you know. Will you try cleaning it first or just replace it with a new pot?

I've a bit of a conundrum. The potentiometer currently in the preamp is an Alps RK27 50K. It appears to be original, not replaced/serviced. All the PV-10B schematics and parts lists list a 100K value. 100K is also what I've seen in several other C-J preamps I've had.
50K, 100K??
Thanks.
Trying to help you figure out the correct part and I see a similar discrepancy elsewhere in that CJ Users forum Joe referred to in his post. Albeit it's a different model number than yours. (link below)While reading through some other sites I noticed CJ removed balance controls on some preamp versions. It's possible they compensated for this with resistors, different value potentiometers, or both.
Unfortunately schematics and parts changed on the fly for many high end brands of that era making it difficult to match up with your preamp date of manufacture and serial number.
At this point you probably can't go wrong with replacing with the identical part if it's served you well.
Or taking it apart and cleaning it.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, great observations and thanks for making that survey. Agreed. It seems that what I've got is exactly how the preamp left the factory and it has always worked well and sounded great. Replace with the same part, or clean the existing one.
I'm sorry that I am unable to attach the schematic and parts list but another forum for Conrad Johnson Owners which does have those documents lists the volume pot for the PV-10B as 100K.

Thanks for the help, Joe.
Hope you get this solved soon.
