Is there any significance to these GE tubes? Like brown based tube often times = micanol base.
Thanks!

S,
Not low loss miconal as Unc Stu mentions. No mention of it in GE tube manual of '65. Just weird color.
How's that Ampeg? I've got a b*$&load of 7591 & 6GM5 that I've been wanting to build a guitar amp out of. I think they may be nice if used in a modded Fender circuit like a Tremolux or Vibrolux.

I strongly suggest you build a DIY Ampeg 15-20 watt, Class "A," cathode-biased push-pull type amp. These puppies have a capacitance coupled reverb section (in ReverboRockets) that gives the amp that Ampeg "shimmer" (ala Byrds or early REM).With audio quality front end tube setup and those 7591A --- you'll have an amp that has a tone much different than a typical two 6V6GT Fender amp of the same era. A good addition to your arsenal.

S,
Cool! Thanks! That looks easy...got a chassis/trannys that will work and plenty of NOS 6SL7's.
Send your e-mail...I got some pics of amp just completed...you'll like it!

Yes DAK, it's a 7591A. Next to the Westinghouse 7591A, best sounding 7591A -- and that is saying a lot. Great tube.
Tan base ones ARE early Westinghouse, regardless of whose name is on 'em...
I have a couple of 6080 tubes with that color base that are labeled IBM. I use them in an OTL headphone amp and they sound really good.

the tan bases I have were labeled Scott
GE was responsible for a number of off colored bases. Someone once told me that the RCA Red Bases were all made by GE.
In general, the brown micanol bases are considered low loss bases: less of a tendency to bleed B+ voltage across the pins.
They are a more heat resistant base. I believe they were an earlier production version for the factory. Are those 7591? regards, Dak
