Hi, I recently bought a Hickok 6000 tube tester though I have the operating instructions manual I have few basic questions while testing the tube.
Once I select a tube to test and I am setting the controls based on the roll chart such as, Filament, Selectors, Bias, Shunt, and Func.
(1) Quality Test - After these settings when I press "TEST" button should I only consider this as 'Quality Test' and look into only the Replace - Good option ignoring the micromhos.
(2) Mu. Conductance Test/Number - Since I already set the 'Shunt' value during the quality test, what I should I different to read the mu. conductance number. Or, should I set shunt at zero while testing quality?
If I am doing these tests completely wrong, please let me know how to do these two tests.
I would greatly appreciate all of your help.
Thank you,
Sri

You're welcome Sri. The instructions in the Hickok manual are written poorly. Enjoy listening to your tubes!

Hi Sri,
The Quality Test is a preliminary good/bad test. To perform this test set the shunt dial to the number given on the roll chart. This test is not meant to give you a micromhos reading.
If you want to know the micromhos readings, set the shunt dial to the appropriate red dot. So if the average new reading on the roll chart is less than 3000 set it to the dot near 73 on the shunt dial and so on.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have additional questions.
Hello Tom
Thanks a lot for your detailed instructions. This really helps, I do have the manual but it was bit confusing to follow. Its very clear from your explanation.
Thanks again.
