Windows 7 optimization?

Ok so I've committed heresy (as a hard core Linux user). I installed Windows 7 ultimate on the HTPC and installed this program called Foobar2000. I have my FLAC drives connected via NFS to my Ubuntu server and mounted as a drive letter in 7.

Where do I begin with Windows in getting better sound? I use a USB Soundcard which has digital outs (Bel Canto USB Link 24/96). I tried to install the ASIO Foobar2000 plugin but under the output section it was telling me I have no ASIO devices. So I guess I'm stuck with traditional things like setting to real time etc..?

I've completely ignored all Windows posts here being a long time Linux hacker, but since this is 7 I'm hoping there's some new things some have noticed.

Have you put the ASIO and KS plugins (downlodable) into the Foobar Components folder under Programs? You then neeed to register ASIO under Virtual Devices in the Output Tag. This operation is a bit weird in that ASIO spdif R and L then appear and you ned to say OK to both to get ASIO registered singly.

Try the wasapi foobar plugin instead of ASIO.

  Sorry to intrude, I wish to implement this plug in for my Foobar playback. I downloaded the file, should I send it to Foobar when I download? Can you be more specific as to the implementation? Thanks,Alan

    Any plug in for Foobar goes into the Program Files-> foobar2000-> components directory.
    
    Just copy and paste.

    You might want to reduce some services...this guide will help
    
    You also want to do a msconfig in the start window and stop all the start up services.
