WHY ??Around where I am black seems to be by far the most popular single color of private vehicle. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying black isn't beautiful, but unless I were choosing for a chauffeur-driven limonene black would be my last choice.
If you chose black, what were your criteria?

Went shopping for a new to me Miata at the peak of the 2008 crash. It was really a buyer's market as no one else was shopping. I ended up getting a 2006 Miata with 18k miles for less than $13k out the door. I was mostly color agnostic looking for the best deal. The car happened to be black. I did refinish the OEM wheel in black.
It is still my daily.

In you case it was circumstance. The car looks good just the same.

Competition Yellow and Winning Blue are the most sought after colors, but you don't get them on a steal of a deal. Thanks for the compliment - I've come around to the "semi-murdered" look. This is fully murdered.

My wife chose a black MB for her car, they do seem to look good in black.
I bought a Black Honda Civic Hatchback - It got dirty fast. I would go to the manual car wash with the handheld jet spray and clean it off - make a 10-minute trip home - dirty again.
It gets hotter on the inside - - black absorbs heat. Silver or grey or that champagne kind of colour on other cars I owned were great because you couldn't really see the dirt for a long time. I'll take any other colour over black.
More visible for night-time driving too. Don't have one at the moment but if I were buying a new vehicle it would be my leading choice.

I remember people complained about Red because it blended with the brake lights - and that red paint seemed to fade.
Silver and grey match the road so tougher to see.
I would like to see more cars in that Toyota Hakone Green on their last year GR86. Some colours seem to suit certain cars better. I would probably never own a Red car - but if I bought a Mazda Miata - their Soul Red seems like a no-brainer for that thing.
No black.

I just bought this beauty last week and didn't have much choice on the color, but I hear ceramic coating is the way to go, anyone here have experience with it? I think I am going to get some official looking flags for over the headlights. It is my new daily driver.

...black. Classic.
I hope she treats you well.
Enjoy.

Thanks Dean, it's a joy to drive and I can't wait to get up and drive it to work every morning. Imagine that!

Looking sharp! Mercedes in particular look great in black IMHO.
Congrats!
Yes. Had a pro-applied ceramic coating put on the wife's black car in Jan of 2020.
Wonderful, wonderful stuff, but with that Merc, paint correction and surface prep would be tons and tons of work, and to get the most from the ceramic coating you really need to do that. Would likely be very expensive given the size of that beastie.
If you don't mind doing the work yourself, might be better off, and definitely much cheaper, with a clay bar kit and a bottle of the Turtle Wax ceramic coating spray. The Turtle Wax ceramic product is good stuff. Lasts much longer than Maguires or Mothers.
Honda chose it as the only color for the ST1300 in 2006 (they alternated each year):
Have one neighbor with two white cars. Across the street, another neighbor has two black cars.
It makes the bike look a bit smaller and sportier.
My saying; black looks better dirty than anything else clean. It's an exaggeration, but not by much for my taste.
My wife at the Hyundai dealer last year, getting her new Santa Fe:
"What color would you like?"
"Black"
"What's your second choice"
"Black"
Thankfully he was smart enough not to ask for her third choice. Haha
I tend to go either black or dark blue. My 4 most recent from now backwards...
Darker blue Acadia
Black Corvette Z06
Dark blue 325i
Black 325i
I've had one white car, and we had a white mini-van, but they were used and what was available. Light colors are not my thing at all. The lighter they are, the less my taste, particularly for interiors.
Personally I like lighter colors if not too bland, (like beige usually is). As for interiors, I hate black and charcoal though they are often the only choice.

I already looked that up a while back when you said it, but forgot what it meant. Yes, in English; to each their own.
Pretty much all my interiors have been black or dark blue.
Side note; I don't like leather, or sunroofs, or convertibles... now there's some things to ponder. :)
You could broil dinners in them.
Not worth it. My wife bought a black Honda CRV years ago - she drove it for a few months and gave it to our youngest son when he turned 16. The back seat was torture 8 months a year here in Az.

I am done with black cars. They look nice when properly cleaned, but they show every small imperfection.

"schwarz" E28 M5. Tan leather interior. It's nice, but it's not a good color for a hot sunny climate like NorCal. Oh well. We ain't painting it blue.
I had a 1991 Toyota Camry SE V6 with after market wide wheels + lower profile tires. The SE had stiffer suspension and better handling but not quite up there with the best sport sedans in its day.... but it didn't cost nearly as much either. To me, glossy black is an awesome looking color on a vehicle - except when it isn't - which is more often than not.
The Camry SE looked gorgeous in gloss black - for a day or two - and then the dust, pollen, and rain spots would muck it all up. Black colored vehicles show every minute bit of whatever lands on the paint job. The lighter colors actually hide it.
I was done with black vehicles after my first and only back in 1991. My next vehicle was a Toyota 4Runner in white ;-)

...and they are gorgeous for about 10 minutes after they have been washed--then they show every water spot, pollen dusting, and bit of mud/debris as if they hadn't been washed in months.
Love the look (when clean), but generally a PITA to keep them looking that way.

Black cars don't look like much if they aren't clean and polished; same for some other colors, though, including red.

One of my cars is still black, and the first things that get to look objectionable after a wash is wheels.
The car itself stays passably OK for far longer, but the wheels get ugly-dusty in just a couple of days with good pads.
The black-on-black 2003 BMW 540i is one of the best looking cars ever built.
... For instance ...
Why anyone would choose a black sports car is puzzling to me.

These days I mostly dream of things I can actually have. :)
Wound up with two anyway with a white vehicle in between. They all had light colored interiors which I liked, so I don't notice the blackness when driving.I wondered how the hell did I get another black vehicle (it was a good deal on the dealer's lot, new)? So I looked at all the black vehicles in my neighborhood, which was quite a few. I found a vehicle with a man and woman inside who were having a tiff it appeared and they both got out to talk it over. Both, very stylishly dressed in black and near black, the guy in Athletic clothing and the woman in a nice dress.
Hey, can't go wrong with black I guess, except when the car is parked in full sunlight. The blacks of my vehicles were both metallic blacks, which are rather nice looking.

I strongly avoid black clothes and even black shoes for example.
Granted, one might go with black if the are the only choice effectively -- I notice black is pretty much the only choice for car interior color except for top-trim models in some cases.
Dmitri Shostakovich
...f**k that "neutral color" BS. It's not neutral, it's oppressively bland. And NO, it doesn't go with everything. I once had an older friend/colleague that held firmly that a grey Buick (with a grey or tan interior) should be the official Geezer staff-car--nothing more "generic" than that existed.

For instance under a clear blue sky my Audi S5 Sportback in Daytona Grey Pearlescent looks jet black from a distance. In bright overcast it is almost silver and a lot of green trees can make it look olive. And so on...

...but we've only got two or three of them. I'll snap a pic if/when I see one. They are a dark charcoal/black metallic, and the decals are just clear and black with a matte finish, barely distinguishable under anything other than bright lighting conditions. All of our regular cruisers are black with bright blue, white and yellow markings. Of course, we have a few un-marked cars, as well.

If your luxury car interior is anything but black good luck on getting the trim to look good.
This is what the interior of my daily driver looks like:
Not exactly a luxury car, but it's all leather with wood and brushed Al accents and it cleans up easily. I schlep two kids around and they put their dirty shoes on the everything including the seats, but the dirt comes right off the leather. If a ballpoint pen exploded in my pocket then I'd be screwed.
I dislike black leather seats because they get hot in the sun. But I especially hate black roof liners. They make the interior feel dark and cramped.
Can't figure out how to get the literal elbow grease off of the interior vinyl as it adheres firmly to their porous texture.
