Must have been awkward.

Follow Ups:
When we share a room at a trade show, we do not always have full control over what gets brought into the room. At AXPONA 2024, we exhibited with Studio Electric (room 620) and with the Porzilli Note Line array (room 1145). The Studio Electric room featured Benchmark cables exclusively. Room 620 featured Benchmark cables everywhere except for the speaker cables that are sold with the Porzilli line array package.
In both cases, we shared these rooms because we like these loudspeaker systems.
The Note line array is a unique and spectacular speaker. The 64-driver array is housed in a narrow low-diffraction tower. It is a one-way design (except for the subs). This slim, line-array design, creates a stereo image can be enjoyed from almost any listening position. The distortion is also very low. The Note line array is very unique and the Benchmark AHB2 is well-suited to driving this difficult load.
I wish we could endorse every component in every room where our equipment is used, but that is not the way these shows work.
Hahahahaha! There might have been some mental gyrations needed to rationalize that pairing. On the other hand:
"Laufer Teknik - The Note line array - The most immersive listening experience I had the entire show." - LongLiveAnalog report
Looking at it from a business standpoint (I have had display boothes at many shows in a different product arena), it often makes good business sense to partner with another company. Whether to reduce costs, use complimentary products, reinforce pre-existing business partnership arrangements, get more exposure, etc., partnering at shows is a common practice. Maybe Laufer Teknik wanted to hook up with a well-known pro brand in order to get more eyes on their products, and Benchmark was willing to let them absorb some of the cost. Maybe John and Bill know each other and are buddies. Who knows?
Reduced room costs?: Check.
And there's this:
"William Duncan (right),... has been after me for a while to hear Laufer Teknik Product's new offerings."
People heard and, apparently, liked "The Note" speakers, and the speaker cables are also one of their products.
Exposure?: Check.
As in any industry or profession, many of the players either know each other or have heard of them or are somewhat familiar with their work. "Partnering" at an expensive show can make a lot of sense, even if the partners don't see eye-to-eye on everything.

Always a pleasure to read your comments and experiences!

So they're basically saying, "It's snake oil!! .... Except for when we use it..... ..... "
