A single disc cd that's $34???
What up with that?
Are they trying to push people into downloads? I thought cd prices were going DOWN, not up?

I would direct you to Amazon's listing for a new copy of Masters of Reality "Sunrise on the Sufferbus" fo an eye opener!!
I'll bet not one of you actually read the link the OP provided before trashing Amazon one and all. They may deserve your collective bile for other reasons, but this is certainly not one of them. Like most items on Amazon, the product detail page summarizes the item and lists alternative formats and a list of other associated vendors of new and used stock. The prices from these associated suppliers are often better than Amazon's own price, as is the case here where it shows that new copies are available from associates for as low as $10.64.
Everything is going to the dogs
That's not the highest price I've seen for a CD....
That dubious honor goes to......
Meaning that they had sized up their market pretty well, don't you think?
Besides, note that other sellers they represent sell it a lot less expensively. If never exactly cheap.
Like LPs listed for well over the retail price?
What is up with that?
New ordinary reissues,, listed with 'free shipping' fro Amazon for say $47.60 when the retail price is $39.95
This happened with some of the Bob Dylan MFSL titles. Annoying, and means you haave to KNOW the real price to not be 'taken' by Amazon.
And the regular Lp stuff prices jumping around all the time. Up overretail, then down..Crazy.
It HAS to be some sort of program whichadjusts prices based on a variety of factors.. LIke current number of purchases of that item, time of day, number of looks per hour, Who knows..
All i know is Amazon has crazy screwy pricing on many music items with no reason I can figure out. The ones who are Amazon Marketplace usually are more realistic, at least for the two or three lowest ones...
But not for the crazy high priced ones.
Must be a real good deal !?!

at 'just' $11.49.
Comes with a digital 'booklet'.
Not to worry- Amazon is a refreshing change compared to eBay.
Since eBay got rich, it is not the same operation since circa 2000.
...
an Icelandic site selling it for 1/3 of that.
Caveat emptor.
.
Not sure why you are confused. It is an import, with probably very few copies available. Supply and demand. Japanese SHM CDs are even more.It is also available for less than 11 bucks plus shipping from another seller. So.....
I have not paid more than 10 bucks for any domestically released CD in the last year.

Got this e-mail from Acoustic Sounds the other day:
Yeh, this is collector Gouging. This type of nonsense is obviously geared towards well heeled, opera lovers.
Well put it in perspective. They guy who buys this probably spent 800 bucks on isolation devices for his SACD player and far more on a power cord.
My heels are a little worn I suppose.
I've got 3 of those operas. I love the Traviata, it is superb even as a regular Hybrid, but it was still a bit of a shock to see that price. Come to think of it I had a difficult time getting my copy. I ended up with a bad copy, reordered it and ended up getting 2 copies of disc 2 (in addition to disc 1) in the same case. I'll bet the QC is better at this price point.
I would have only bought 4, but I was $2 short on getting free shipping.
The most expensive one was $10, most were under $8 and were all current stuff.

There are Amazon Merchants selling for less than that. Until they notice the price difference and change their prices.
Do most people buy from Amazon vice merchants? I usually buy from Amazon Merchants.

imports to the US are always less at

I've ordered from Amazon UK before ... especially like the vinyl releases ... got some good EU pressed vinyl that way.

I like to buy from Amazon.
$35+ at a time = free shipping.
I've also had some less than good experiences with some other sellers.

I'm guessing 95% of my transactions have went well. Usually I deal with the same vendors though.

There's often quite a disparity between Amazon and it's 3rd party vendors' prices. Only problem I've ever had with third party vendors was on a SACD I ordered and got the regular cd, once. Credit issued as soon as the vendor received the returned cd.

I've had a problem with Gold CD's twice. Got to keep the CD and a refund both times ... but geez ... you think they would check their inventory before listing.
