The nature of the shelves influences the sound.
Glass tends to give a harder edge to the sound than acrylic.
This may be a bad thing.
I like 15mm acrylic. Its thick enough to be reasonably rigid and doesn't really resonate.
This gives a drier kind of sound. Cleaner and leaner.
It also looks very good.
