Does anyone know of a good place to buy transformers. I need one for my preamp 120v primary 40 volt dual secondary center tap. If someone know of a place in Canada it would be even better. Thanks
Follow Ups:
I forgot to mention, we might find a Hammond that's more suitable, depending on available mounting space. Since you have one CT winding, Hammond would call that 80V CT, but for Plitron you would get dual 40V secondaries and connect the secondaries in series. Need your pre VA/W rating to judge size. Still not sure your transformer is defective. I'm not sure if toroidal or EI ("regular") is better in a preamp, depends on implementation I guess. I have both types in preamps, both seem to be fine, I think mounting space will determine what you can do here.
Do you mean each of the 40V secondaries is center-tapped? I happen to have a brand new (unneeded now, changed my mind!) Plitron toroidal with dual 40V secondaries, but they're not center-tapped. Plitron does not make a standard transformer with the secondaries center-tapped (and neither do most others when there are dual secs of the same voltage), but they'd probably do it as a custom job. I'm in Canada BTW.

You took the words right out of my mouth!
Would you be interested in participating in a Sacramento DIY group get together sometime this comming year? I've been conversing with a few other locals. Lefty over at PartsExpress discussion forum will probably host the event.

There is a company called 'nuvotem' that manufacture transformers. As they actually make the transformers on site (so I am told) they are in a position to make to order. If they can't help you then they probably can tell you who can. The nearest supplier to you is in the UK. Check their web page (below). The nearest manufacturer to you is in Ireland (I'm reading this off the brochure they sent me - it may well be out of date.)
UK, Delta Components, Phone 0342 834900
Ireland, Nuvotem TEO, Phone (int+) 353 75 48666
Kind Regards,
