Is it OK to leave my LP 12 (Valhalla) plugged in but not turned on when using the multiwave settings with my CD player? Or is it better to unplug the turntable?
Andrew
Follow Ups:
As long as the Valhalla's motor isn't being powered by the MultiWave, then it is fine to leave it plugged in but turned off.No problemo!
As a follow up, can I use the 81Hz setting to safely give me 45 RPM when using the Valhalla power supply (my valhalla does not have the 45 rpm feature)?
Yup. Should give you nearly perfect speed.
elvis,
i'm sure someone from psa will chime in, but in the meantime...
i posted this question on the pp forum on the psa web site a short while back, and the reply by paul m was that as long as you disabled the multiwave prior to powering up the turntable, there would be no risk in leaving the turntable always plugged into the pp while running mwaves on other equipment.
fwiw, my previously speed-regulation challenged rega now spins a perfect thirty three and a third @ 60 hz.
i will attach the content of our exchange for your reference, in the event you can't readily link to the ps forum:____________________________________
paul in reply to original ?:
The speed of an AC synchronous motor is frequency dependant. therefore, the higher the frequency feeding the motor the faster it spins.
There are two of the sine wave frequencies that are specifically tuned for the turntable on every Power Plant.
MultiWaves should NOT be used with a turntable and AC synchrnous motor.
Many turntables today use DC servo type motors that vary the DC voltage to regulate the speed. these are fine with MultiWave patterns.

Paul:Many thanks for the speedy reply. Two follow-up questions:
Accepting that the multiwave feature should not be used with ac motor turntables, is there damage potential in leaving the turntable plugged into the pp (with motor off) while multiwave is used with other components? Thanks again.

There is no problem whatsoever with having the turntable connected while the MultiWave is on if the motor is not being powered.
