No and I don't know how to use one. I use Aomei Backupper and usually do a full backup every night. I keep 3 and every day I delete the oldest. There is a boot CD I can stick in and recall a backup using the CD if Windows fails to boot. It's saved my butt a few times. Here is something you might find handy: If SFC.exe finds bad files, but can't repair all of them, run the following command: DISM.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Takes a little longer, but not too long. Goes right to MicroSoft and fixes things. Be sure to leave the 3 spaces I have indicated.
Follow Ups:
RAID is a neat way of doing backup without the hassle. RAID comes in 'levels' so that for a home computer guy, RAID 0 or RAID 1 may be a viable solution. While a RAID 5 system can rewrite a failed disc from the remaining 4......and so on.
RAID 5, for example, appears to distribute the data over 5 drives, makes checksum entries and does it in such a way that you can Reconstruct a drive from the remainder. So? If a drive fails, you can just insert a new drive and it'll rebuild......
RAID 0 and RAID 1 are not as robust and use other ways to 'share' drives.
Since I'm NO pro and have a much lesser need? Might be worth YOUR while to read thru the WIKI on the subject. Weaknesses DO exist, but you might have workarounds available.......
Is this a viable soluttion these days? I'll admit to being Out Of Touch on these issue, so maybe time has passed RAID by?
Too much is never enough
Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. But "RAID is a neat way of doing backup without the hassle"? I can do a full backup of my C: drive with three click of the mouse! If one of my storage drives takes a nose dive I would know it because i have programs that report the status of each drive. One such program is called Speccy (https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy) and gives you a truly incredible amount of info regarding your HDDs. I use the free version. All of my HDDs are Western Digital Reds, which have proved to be very good drives. WD has their own software which detects drive probs. After 12 years I still have not one problem or bad sector on any of them.
Many year ago I made the mistake of buying a Seagate drive, and tried a Maxtor once as well.Long story short... I've been a WD user for a very long time now. Even my OLD Pentium 133 has three Western Digital drives in it. And I have three external WD USB drives for backups and overflow. (I have five computers.)
People who think they're saving money by buying crap drives, motherboards, memory, etc. are looking for trouble. I just keep my mouth shut when somebody says they got a great deal on a computer.
