A 5400 with just a TFL will sound much better than stock, but in no way sound as good as a 5400 with TFL and our new no feedback, no opamp I/V converter/buffer analog module.
And a stock 5400 with UberClock will sound maybe 20% better than with just the TFL, but not sound anywhere near as good as having a TFL and the analog section upgraded.
Of course a 5400 with UberClock and our new analog Upgrade will sound the best, but that's becoming serious money for what's basically a lowish priced player to begin with.
The 5400 has a better stock analog output section than most SONYs, for once it's not overly complex, but it still blindly uses opamps in a chain, although at least this time they keep the signal in balanced format, rather than their old practice of taking a perfectly balanced signal out of the digital section, converting it to unbalanced for filtering, and then RECONVERTING it back to balanced - as in the SCD-1.
But opamps sound like opamps, no matter how smart the designer is, and I can't enjoy even one in a signal path, so we designed a zero opamp, zero negative feedback I/V buffer that does the job to my satisfaction.
OK?

Thanks for the reply, I was purely thinking about a long term approach!
The Uberclock could be used on another machine or sold, and yes it would be expansive now but maybe a better investment in the long term????
The TLC would have to stay in the player and modded machines don't sell
that well.
My information is that VSE upgrades, including the TFL, are "transplantable" -- I assume, to other players of the same model. When I had the upgrades installed, I pondered the same question: What if the SCD-1 just died one month after the costly upgrades? The answer seems to be: Get another SCD-1 (or its sister Sony model) in good working condition and have the upgrades transplanted. That, at least, is a partial answer to the worry.
We try to make our Upgrades as easily reversible as possible. This allows the Upgrade to be moved to a new machine, and the original machine reversed back to stock for sale.
We don't pull out xtals or opamps because that always damages the part itself, and often the circuit board - instead we leave them in place but bypass them by maybe cutting a few selected circuit board tracks, which are easily repaired.
We have tried to think this all through to allow our clients the maximum usability now, and in the future.

Yes your idea makes sense, but I found that in general the lifespan of a cd/sacd player is about 4 years until a better one comes along, and I thought that investing in a Uberclock may be cheaper in the long run??
But then again who knows Blu Ray may have taken over by then?
A BlueRay player will benfit from a TerraFirma clock (or either type) as much as any other player does. It's still digital, and as such needs the very best clock possible.
Our next project is developing an Upgrade for the OPPO BlueRay player. I have two on order right now.
The UberClock is approx three times the price of a TFL - and could be a long term investment, but please realise it would most likely need an oscillator change for a new player, as they all seem to use different frequencies of oscillator. It's not exactly plug & play. But your agent can counsel you on this.

Just shows you how technical I am!!
