canot be meaured. Hoever. the Mytek does sound somewhat coloured in the bass compared to the Wyred4Sound 2 and TEAC UD501. This is with a purist signal path.TL has a complicated processing chain, using at least both real time upsampling and parametric equalisation. I therefore don't think that he can claim transparency to be the priority

My goal is transparency to the recording, to the extent possible. This includes my complete playback chain, including my room. When you say that a particular DAC is colored relative to some other DAC, what can that possibly mean? The fact that one DAC sounds better to you than another in a particular system tells us nothing without more information. It could be as simple as offsetting errors someplace else in your system.
If you want to compare DACs then you need a solid basis for doing so, which means some kind of bypass tests using ADC to DAC loops of some sort, so as to take the most variable elements in anyone's system out of consideration.

There is no such thing as transparency to the recording in a complex replay chain, unless you can compare this against live sounds and music.
As I mentioned earlier, transparency in a DAC can be evaluated using an ADC to DAC loop, comparing original analog with digitized and reconstituted analog. This will eliminate bias from other portions of the record - playback chain, since they will be identical. Of course, the record chain up to the analog input of the ADC and the playback chain downstream of the analog output of DAC must have sufficient resolution to make differences audible. If differences are heard, it will be still necessary to attribute them to the ADC or DAC, which might not be an easy task unless a collection of converters is available.

This has nothing to do with transparency to a recording, as you indicated
