If you read many of the original reviews of the cornerstone progressive albums of the early 70s, they were usually favorable, but if you read RS all music guide critiques, they are preposterously negative. The change came with the advent of punk, which is itself highly overrated in my opinion, but that's a different matter.Progressive, psychedelia, and Brit-folk are still my favorite sub-genere's, but over exposure does tend to quell one's enthusiasm. My wife and I love Jethro Tull, but she can't stand to hear the Aqualung album.
My advise, don't listen to any prog for a year or so, especially not on Classic Rock radio, (the Kings of over exposure), and then take some of your old favorites back out and give them a spin on the highest end system you have access to and see if that doesn't rekindle an appreciation.
If not, can I have your MoFi Close to the Edge?
