I just found out that Kenny Barron has released a new CD with Trio da Paz entitled 'Canta Brasil'. Anyone hear it yet? Regardless, it's on order, I should get it in a couple of days. Can't think of a happier marriage, swinging Kenny with the rhythms of Trio da Paz. Any other Christmas goodies I should be looking for?

Does that come with earplugs?

How about B Spears wrapped in saran wrap. Just one layer.
Open minded enough to hear some new sounds?
One of my best buy of 2002 was Richard Galliano/Eddy Louiss
"Face to face" on the Dreyfuss label.
Accordion and Hammond B3, a combination made in heaven!

You will have to give me some feed back on tio de Paz/Barron CD
sounds nearly too good to be true!
I'll check it out as soon as I can. I'll put it on my ever-growing list, at least. I'm a fan of jazz duets, so it sounds intriguing to me. The sparseness of an arrangement for a duet usually allows for an intimacy between the players that is easily conveyed to a listener. I've found it so with nearly all well played duets. As long as we're on the topic of duets, Id like to once again recommend Dialogues a new collaboration by Houston Person and Ron Carter. I think I mentioned it a while ago here, but never elaborated. About a month ago I picked up four recent releases by Person - Blue Velvet, My Romance, Person-ified, and Dialogues , all of which are wonderful, but especially Dialogues , which has become one of my favorite new purchases. Carter and Person are custom made for each other, and their playing is so articulate with jazz tradition and musical dialogue. (I'm glad I got to hear Person live to learn to appreciate his tone and style so much.) They're obviously so comfortable playing together, and seem to share a similar philosophy of tempo and tone. The sound, btw, is phenomenal. Back to Bob C's inquiry about Christmas merriment - I also had it in mind to get Together at Christmas by Houston person and Etta Jones. I love a good jazz Christmas CD, and enjoy listening to it with the tree lighting up the room in the quiet of the night. This year I haven't seen any that interest me, except for the Person/Jones one. Time is running short on Christmas CDs though, so I better bump it up higher on my long, long list!
And if you did not get that one, then you missed one of the most
joyous and swinging jazz recording in yearshttp://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=Aleoibka9jakc

I'll check out the Richard Galliano/Eddy Louiss release. Got to say that those two instruments are not my favorites, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.Dialogues is now on my list as well, & I better pick up the Person/Jones CD. Not a lot of Christmas jazz tickles my fancy, this might do it.
By the way, did you both get Kendra's email of last week announcing her radio show w/ Abbey Lincoln?
Nothing ventured, nothing gain. Be open minded and you won't be sorry.
I've been playing this disc on my radio show and the feedback has been unbelievable.got Kendra's email but can't listen from this side of the planet.
Let us now if you have the opportunity to listen to it.
I believe that Kendra and Abbey are quite close!
BTW we had a 90% eclipse yesterday!
I saw pictures of your eclipse up here. I beleive they were digital pics. I wish they were analog pictures (so much more lifelike) - but they were very high resolution with so much detail! Every bit as dramatic and compelling as the real thing. Besides - to actually view the eclipse... with all the other people, and clouds, the wind, insects, birds, etc. to distract you... It sometimes can be more rewarding to view pictures. Besides that, there were classic eclipses from decades ago that were more original. But seriously now... I've been seeing a lot of ads for the Northsea Festival lately... lots of pics of mountains, sunsets, and girls on beaches, in bikinis. I'd trade that for the 6" of mucky NYC snow I'm looking today. Too bad that festival doesn't focus more on real jazz, eh?
I got the Email, but I didn't get to hear the radio program. Not much access to the radio for me, except in the car. I'd be interested in hearing it sometime if it repeats.
Wow... excellent news indeed! Thanks for the heads-up on this, I'm going to get my hands on it asap too. I just researched it on allmusic.com though, and I see it features some flute, which gives me a little trepidation. I'm something like Branford Marsalis, who in this month's JazzTimes gives such a harsh reaction to the guitar playing on James Carter's Chasin the Gypsy CD (Lubambo, no less!!!), and voices his general distaste for guitars in jazz. Unlike Marsalis however, I enjoy jazz guitar in general and Lubambo in particular! It's jazz flute that I have a problem with. It must go back to some heavy exposure to Herbie Mann back in the 60's! Trio da Paz and Kenny Barron have always demonstrated exceedingly good taste, so I'll have faith and look forward to hearing it. Exciting news, thanks again.
