Joni belongs in an elite group with Dylan, Lennon/McCartney, and Elvis Costello for the pop/rock mode. And her vocal range in her prime was scary. What could be a more definitive album for a singer/songwriter than Blue?
Follow Ups:
and the cd versions don't come close. In Joni's prime, she was fantastic as both singer and songwriter, and she was one of the key pop artists of the 20th century.
i'm reviewing my vinyl collection which includes some lps i'm not too familar with.i have about 5 joni mitchell lps. and i listened to them with an open mind: either i think the material is good or it does not interest me.
finding: 3 of the 5 lps made my 'best' category primarily reserved for my best jazz and occasional rock and soul. these were 'hejira', 'court and spark', and one that just says 'joni mitchell'.
the song 'amelia' on 'hejira' is a remarkable song.
i would say give the cd a little more of a listen. or come back to it at another time.
I almost cried. It was amazing ! God rest his sole !
