I am often doing research into the length of [mostly classical] pieces and the length of the individual movements or tracks.I go to Andante sometimes and look in their "Music in Print" database to find the published length of various works. However, not only is their database sometimes quite difficult to search in, it also contains errors, and its coverage is spotty (on a % basis; there is certainly a lot there, don't get me wrong).
Certainly, different performances will have different time/length for a given piece. The published length is a good barometer for the whole piece but seldom lists the movements' times.
Anyone know a way to research these things? Other than picking up CDs at the store and looking at the back? :^) --which is the best way, but of course the stores dont have all the CDs that one might wish to have a look at, AND not all labels feature times broken out by movement, or sometimes even for the whole piece.
Any ideas?

Ironically, the Hyperion label stays away from most of the easiest pieces to find this kind of information about (not a lot of Beethoven, for example). For what they have, however -- and it's quite a lot -- they have full info:For pretty much everything else, Naxos also has comprehensive information:
These two labels have such a vast number and range of recordings that I would be hard-pressed to cite pieces they haven't done! At both sites, the quickest way to navigate is "By Composer".
You can try All Classical Guide.-Mike...
