I have a fair bit of Part's music, and enjoy most of it, such as his Te Deum and Berliner Mass (some of it doesn't grab).
What are impressions of this latest release?tia
Follow Ups:
I believe I have all the original ECM series recordings of Arvo Part. My favorite is "Tabla Rasa" & "Litany". Yesterday I went to Tower Records & saw "Orient Occident" & thought "Do I have this already?" It went for a good price & was recorded in 2002. If I did have it already I could give the new CD as a gift. When I got home, sure enough I looked in my CD files & there was the other copy. This is twice I did this, the other dobule buy was "The Best of Steeley Dan". This is what happens when you have over 1800 CD's, your ratio of repeats increases. I am thinking I must not of liked "Orient Occident", for if I did, I wouldn't of bought it twice :) JD3

After buying the 2nd disc & then seeing this entry, I went home to listen to the CD that was already open. I heard about 2 minutes of the opening movement & my wife told me to turn it off. Well its not her fault, both me & my wife work in a family own business. In the business we have a guy that plays Rap & Hip-Hop all day long with a DJ that tells dirty jokes. My wife's philosophy is to have peace & quiet after work to forget the rap & Hip-Hop, while my philosophy is to play classical or jazz to wash my mind. Either way, the little that I heard was more distant rather than the peaceful Arvo Part we are use to.
We became very interested in Arvo Part when my Wifes
Choral group did Beatitudes. We were both very taken by it.
Our newer discs include De Profundis and I am the True Vine.
They havent yet got the play time they deserve. Im playing them
today. Your thoughts on the new disc? I hear that its different.
The music is surely not for everyone.
