Tell me about Maazel, because one can never have enough Bruckner 8s, although most of them just fill the Casa Bruckneriana Gigantica. Is it any good? I'm only familiar with his 'Missa solemnis' and it's quite okay, though not revolutionary.

Maazel's B8 quite okay, though not revolutionary. It's a good recording, and worth the US $6 or so.Compared to it's contemporaries like Solti and Barenboim, it's phenomenal. It's a pretty standard reading that flows well, and of course you do get the BPO's brass. And one can never have too many Bruckner 8ths!
At least the orchestra is greater than imaginable.
It's not revolutionary, but it's still quite okay :-) But I see your point, it is a digital recording.
