The piano player replaced Roland Hanna in the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Band. He also made the first recording of Ornette Coleman's and the last recording Chet Baker's.The bass player was presented one of Charlie Mingus' bass by Sue Mingus after she heard him at a concert in India.

Some people considered him possibly the greatest bass player in the world -- jazz or classical. Vitous was a good guess. Those European bass players are very, very good. Pegenini they called him!Seriously, search him out. He never came to the USA but he worked with all the American jazz cats in Europe in addition to being featured in symphonic situations.

I knew you'd get the sax players and your right about Scott. This cat is a pretty good organ player though.You gave yourself one clue----a lot of the great chops bass players are not American. Tradition!
