December 8, 1865In celebration we have playing Sydämeni laulu
"Song of My Heart" Op. 18 No. 6 (1895)
performed by The Helsinki University Choir cond. by Ensti Pohjola.followed by: "Demanten på marssnön" (The Diamond on the March Snow) with soprano Aulikki Rautawaara
Follow Ups:
I'll see if I can find it.FWIW, I find Sibelius' Mieskuorolault, Songs for Male Voice Choir, to be very moving. It is also sung by the Helsinki University Chorus conducted by Matti Hyokki.
It includes a brief transcription of Finlandia-hymni made for 'marching soldiers'. This alone is worth the price of the CD (Finlandia 4509-95849) but the entire recording is very enjoyable.
After listening to and loving classical music for more than 35 years, I finally discovered the immense genius of Sibelius just within the past few months. Life remains a journey. Happy birthday, JS. And thank you.
