you are missing some quite nice stuff. I do not know what you call to expensive, but for about one or two K you can have quite nice sound out of a piece of groovey plastic.
redbook CD of Joe Jackson will sound better on my APL than any sub $15K turntable....I have yet to hear any TT touch my APL's redbook, - with the possible exception of a Walker rig what was pushing $20K, - and it still went SNAP, CRACKLE, POP> ..... for me, - it takes so much willing suspension of disbelief that I feel like I'm at a Tom Cruise movie.....
Turntable, tonearm, cartridge, alignment labor, cables, isolation platform, extra shelf, phono preamp, YIKES!!! no thank you....
