In Reply to: Bad choice of software for a stereo comparison. posted by Jim Pearce on May 13, 2003 at 07:07:21:
Do you think that the SACD stereo track is only a few inches better tahn the regular CD ? I did not make side to side comparison, but from the feeling I would say that it was more than marginally...I still have the LP unopened..Did you compared?
Patrick
Follow Ups:
The voices are generally better on the CD. Overall, I like the LP best and the SACD by a hair over the CD. Maybe I'll do an A/B/C tonight, but CD would be at a disadvantage on my Denon DVM-4800 vs. SACD on the Marantz SA-14.
Which cd ? There are so many.... The MSL is not too bad.
Although I only listened through the first side of the LP. What is clear is that the SACD stereo is remastered but not remixed. The LP sounds like it is based on the new master, but there is no acknowledgement in the liner notes. Something really did go wrong with the vocals in this remastering. Otherwise I was characteristically too hard on the SACD when I first heard it. It is a clear improvement over the CD. The LP, on the other hand, handles the piano much better than the SACD and the soundstaging is stronger on my system.
Yes, it confirms my feelings.( the best still the Toshiba/ Emi, I suppose, will do the test when I get tiime.
Thanks,
Patrick
Why not take your crap somewhere else? You haven't done a comparison but you "feel" the SACD would be better. Do you have any opinion on music that has not yet been released on SACD? What a future you have, reviewing music not yet released on specific formats. Wow! You are a smart cookie aren't you? No, please don't bother responding, it would be much better if you could just hold your tongue...no please try not to respond...squeeze those ass cheeks really tight and don't let any of that s**t escape. Bet you can't!!!!
I see, you must be the kind of person who are so frustated that they do not knowwhat to do with the rage they are feeling...
Take a warm bath. go look after a nice woman ( or man ) sell your guns( if you have some ).
Gee, what made you so angry? Posts like that will come back to bite you one day. Maintain your poise.

Maybe the above poster should compare the SACD redbook layer, the SACD layer and a regular CD on the same machine? All his post tells me is that the Mac is a better CD player than the Denon, even better than the Denon playing the SACD layer.
Not hard to swallow, however, he wasn't using the same cables on both players, so all bets are off.
I'm an XX, not an XY. My original point was whether it is better at this time to get a high end CD player, given the software that is available. I have since had time to change the cables so that they are the same grade. The Mac still holds its own, though I have noticed better bass in some of the SACDs I own vs. the CDs.
although 'Chris' can be a girl's name, too. It's funny, but Michi and Kuma get that a lot and I'm prone to let the person in on the fact that they're each a 'she'.Touche'!
Have any pictures of yourself that you'd care to post? 8~()
I've got the Denon 1600 and I'm interested in the 2900. This being said, I don't have room for both players in the main system and since the Denon does duty in the second system, it's not a big issue to get a universal player right now. I'd need to sell my Sony SCD-1 when it gets back from the repair shop and then I really wouldn't consider the Denon for main duties, but something with a better PSU and analogue section.
One needs to eliminate as many variables as they can when they compare two products of like nature. From your post above, you didn't seem to really compare the three formats to one another on the same 2900 player.
That another hi end CDP can sound better than a mass market DVDV/A/SACD player isn't too hard a pill to swallow for me.
Good luck with your tests and thanks for sharing.
