"Ambra" is a double premiere - the first DVD Audio album to be released by MAWA Film und Medien of Potsdam, Germany, and also the first German DVD Audio release not compatible with DVD Video players -despite the logos on the backcover, Dolby Digital or dts tracks are not included. The DVD Video version with breathtaking scenery filmed by Gogol Lobmayr is recommended for those who do not yet own a DVD Audio player.MLP Tracks
The disc is clearly labeled "DVD AUDIO in High End 5.1 Surround & 2.0 Stereo: 24 Bit/96 kHz". The AVENUE Studios in Potsdam have done a marvellous job in recording and mixing the tracks - the music is a showpiece for the format with clear and crisp details. The surround mix is immersive and constantly employs all five main channels - albeit a bit too playful sometimes. Music lovers not fond of vocals and electronic sounds wandering around the speakers will have to resort to the dedicated stereo mix.
Navigation
Ambra is presented as an audio-only album with just one still picture for the track list (which is not needed for - and does not allow -navigation). Switching from P.PCM 5.1 to P.PCM 2.0 just requires pressing the "AUDIO" button ("GROUP" did not work when I tried it), and one may access any track by pressing its appropriate number. A TV set is not required at all.
Music
Originally written as the score for a DVD Video subtitled "Fascination of Sound and Nature", it was meant to be as spectacular as the landscapes presented in the movie. It is a modern blend of Enigma-like tunes and vocals, synthesizer electronica and world music, timeless and just right for listening in and relaxing. Ideal for those who have watched the movie and just want to enjoy the music once more in high resolution quality.
The immersive surround concept has somewhat watered down the quality of the musical composition - all too often a nice tune you are just about to enjoy is disrupted by sounds suddenly appearing from one speaker and hovering around you. However, the overall excellent sound quality makes good any such deficiency.Extras: None

..or did I overlook something ? amazon.de only lists the DVD-V version.
An article in VIDEO magazine about a month ago also covered Ambra's latest projects, the DVD Audio and their new DVD Video release due in May.The DVD Audio is not listed by Amazon or other online stores as yet - I purchased my copy today in the SATURN store Berlin-Steglitz (€20.99). MediaMarkt should also have the disc in stock.

Martin Koppehele is quoted here, referring to the new DVD Audio version of the first album.
Thanks for the info - looks like an interesting one. The web site says that it's "World Ethno Pop", are there any artist/composer credits?
All music & lyrics are by Giorgio and Martin Cope (or Koppehele, which is their real name) who have also produced, recorded and mastered the album.
Thanks for the info! :)
