In Reply to: FYI .. The Denon DVD-2900 is awsome. SACD & DVD-A are great and DVDs are rich & clear. posted by Striving for Musical Clarity on April 30, 2003 at 00:53:11:
Have you got a DVD-A and/or a SACD player to compare with?
Follow Ups:
Yes, I have a Sony DVP-S9000es 2 channel SACD player with progressive scan DVD and a Technics DVD-A10 5.1 channel DVD-A player also with progressive scan DVD.Even before break-in this machine is at least equaling the others in audio. The video exceeds that of either of the others. I haven't checked it out on redbook CDs yet.
I've been debating between getting this and getting a Sony AX-777es at twice the price but with no DVD-Audio and no video (but it is an awsome CD and SACD player - as good as they come).
Going with the Denon greatly symplifies my sysem and it's already exhibiting excellent audio. So I've made the decision to go with the excellent audio of the 2900 and forego the best in class audio of the 777. There's still the concern about which format (SACD or DVD-Audio) is going to win out. This way I'm covering all my bases.
It might be a better match, audio wise, to the XA777ES.
available by then.
I need HDCD especially for my extensive RR collection. My Denon DVM-4800 is a killer HDCD player, but unfortunately Denon left it off the 2900 to cut costs. The 3900 would really simplify my system if it could equal my Marantz SA-14 on redbook and stereo SACD, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
SfMC,Can you tell whether it's a new transport or whether it uses the Pioneer transport like the first generation universal players?
(you may be able to tell from the setup menu, if it has the typical menus of the other universal players)Best
Eric
