I don't know, I think most of this stuff is geared at people who think they can't hear a difference, just like Sony's microsystem with SACD. And my guess is that, with those microsystems, it's hard to hear a difference. What does your closing sentences mean? That there will be lower-cost DVD-Video only players, unable to decode MLP? It's hardly news.
Dunno, I'd like to see a worthy replacement for Technics DVD-A10 (or what was its name). As the main mass-market provider of DVD-A only (not universal) players, I think they should provide us with such a product.

My guess is you will be able to play DVD-Audio discs in 96 kHz/24 bit quality in certain players and recorders.I do not agree as to Panasonic's mini systems. If you can, give the new SC-DT310 system a listen. It is worlds apart from cheap SACD HTiB mass market gear (except maybe one system offered by Philips) and a stylish yet compact way to enjoy DVD Audio. Have a look at the speakers - and you see the difference.
Panasonic sold two systems of this kind last year - one with, one without DVD Audio. Customers who DID hear the difference (quite a few) did not mind paying a €100 more to enjoy DVD-Audio with three free discs included.
A replacement for the Technics player is not in sight. Panasonic has announced they will no longer offer high-end players.

I'll try to, thanks for the info.

Harman Kardon has announced a complete line-up of DVD Audio players - in case their Wolfson DACs are combined with other adequate parts, they could be another choice. The DVD 30 - due in May - could be a refined Panasonic model (with most of the features the new 75 model will offer plus the Wolfson DAC).Alternatives:
You're right about the h/k player, the 30 seems to be interesting (I had written it off some time ago when there were rumours it would be a universal, and didn't remember while I was writing that it definitely was to come out as a dedicated DVD-A player). But:
> Yamaha DVD-S1200, Onkyo DV-S757 and DV-S939, MarantzAs for Marantz, it would seem that the current trend of D&M is to release universal players (i.e., the 8300/8400 for Marantz, the 2900/3900 for Denon), the Onkyo 757 isn't listed anymore 'round here, and Onkyo has released an universal player (the 800) which seems to be part of a new year model line; the Yam... I was under the impression it was going to be replaced by the universal 2300 - I could be wrong. But this would leave the Onkyo 939 only.
Guess, if I find the money, it's going to be an Arcam or a Meridian if budget can stretch - just to have a dedicated DVD-A player comparable to the SCD-777ES.
