cruising over on the hi-way and it continually stikes me how much talk there is there about the sound, the sound while there is very little discussion of the "music". Seems like many with SACD are caught up in the sound of things versus the music. I find it funny how so many discussions are about the third violin farting four rows in -"man, you could actually smell the fart it was so clear". Where's the music? I don't find quite the anal like discussions here on the Audiobahn about sound which is refreshing(no pun intended in regards to my earlier comment!)I guess I have just spent the morning painting with music on inside my house. Big Head Todd, Lucinda Williams, Danny Gatton, Speedy and Jimmy - no music where I was "listening to the components", just plain enjoying the music. Does the format end up dictating how we listen versus adding to the enjoyment of the music? I have several SACD's that I have listened to that now gather dust. They may "sound great" but there is very little interest musically. Who cares how well something sounds if it is unable to communicate the music?

I would humbly suggest investigating Music Lane ad Rocky Road, which are specifically designed to discuss music and not hardware. Most of the other boards tend to be mostly hardware oriented, but then again, the titles of the boards themselves betray their hardware orientation.
I agree with you 100%! There is far too much emphasis put on the 'gear'. The variables of room acoustics alone will put the whack on the best 'gear'. The perfect gear in the perfect room is that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It's impossible to get on an objective analysis on something that is purely subjective. The most important thing to me is whether I'm enjoying the music; not whether this or that will possibly put my music into the next level. My listening enjoyment is in constant flux. One day a certain passage of music will move me to tears (literally) of joy. Another day it may just be humdrum. Nothing has changed electronically; only my emotional state at the time.
But for some the journey is more important than the destination.
But then that's just me.
the gear matters, too.
...and I have to say myself, that I've just finished going through both pages of each board...and the software/hardware posting ratio wasn't noticably higher on the 'bahn...you folks are talking about Mac, we're discussing Gabriel and DSOTM. Take yer pick of anal discussions... : )
no matter where I go. Nice to hear from you Chris, you have been pretty quiet here. Guess some slight against SACD brings you out of your hole. I don't mean the ass one, I wouldn't be that mean. As for Mr Meth, go shoot up some more, the drugs are wearing off!!
I've been happily listening to my DVDA player for a couple of months now, however my selection of DVDAs is very limited so I'm mostly doing just CDs.I'll report back soon.
Have a good Saturday night.
...and I really enjoy listening to it over and over again.Best examples: John McEuen's and Jimmy Ibbotson's music on AIX ("Acoustic Traveler" is my favorite instrumental) and Emma Shapplin (cross-over classical symphonic music with arias sung in 14th-century Italian). I am thrilled how a plain DVD-A disc is magically transformed into a musical hologram.
For me, this is perfection. Still, I like even less-than-average quality recordings like Astrud Gilberto's "Now" on DVD-A or John Adams/Lepo Sumera's music on "Shifting Landscapes" (SACD hybrid - I remaster the redbook with a Panny DVD-A player just for convenience and am happy with it... SACD MCH is way better though not as realistic as a DVD-A but never mind... the music is magic...)
