I just bought a DV-45A last week and have been having problems playing back CDs (CD-r and CD-RW) with MP3 files on them. I listen to these when I'm doing work around the house or outside and like that I don't have to keep changing CDs. Sometimes it will read them and play perfectly. Other times, it recognizes them as Music CDs and won't. I never get an error message. Anyone else experience this? Am I overlooking something?
Follow Ups:
I think I need to purchase new software...kind of new at this MP3 thing...I appreciate the help.
Hi-Rez? No, but MP3s are great for easy portability, storage and background music. I have had good results with MP3 files on my 45A. I use RAZORLAME to create files and NERO to burn the discs. Refer to page 10 in your DV-45A Operating Instructions manual.Make sure that your burning software is set for the correct file compliance. I did goof once. I couldn't get a MP3 disc to play, until I realized that I had burned it as an open multisession disc. Now, I just make sure to check the NO MULTISESSION option in NERO. Also, the 45A does play VBR tracks. I do so often. The manual states that VBR tracks may cause the 45A to not display the playing time correctly. I have not noticed this quirk, as I use MP3 mainly in the background.
One complaint I have about the 45A's MP3 performance, is that it doesn't display the bit rate information on the video monitor or on the front panel display.
Good Luck

I did read the manual--there must be some conflict in my burning software. I still cannot get MP3s to play. Do you use both CD-Rs and CD-RWs?
Hi mcp,
Sorry to read that your still having problems. Yes I use both CD-Rs and CD-RW. Like I wrote before, I'm using NERO. More specifically NERO BURNING ROM 5.5You can download a demo verision of NERO. I don't know how the demo differs from the purchased verison (the full version came bundled w/ my burner).
From what I can gather, it is essential to create MP3 discs following the 45A manual to the letter.
ISO 9660 Level 2 - Mode 1,Mode2/XA - either no multisession or a closed multisession - and as Michi pointed out, the disc must be finalized.
good luck again!

I've had no problem, with Nero, on my 45A and 47Ai.... You want to make sure you burn it as ISO and finalize the disc... (which Nero doesn't always do by default.)... Probably the wrong forum, in a way, but I'm definitely willing to try and help.
I'm using Roxio. Should I be using a fixed bit rate? Does it make a difference?
VBR is implemented in different ways with different encoders. It's sort of a "tack on" spec that wasn't in the original MP3 spec...
I have the Pioneer DV-47A and had the same problem. Seems that my player would not play MP3 files burned using Nero. I changed to Roxio, Easy CD Creator and have not had any problems.
