Are you using the fronts of the 5.1 outputs for stereo?
Follow Ups:
No. Using the two stereo outputs.
Use the L R outputs from the multichannel section.
I would assume there would be missing information (music) in the LR channels because it was mixed to be in 4-6 channels. I assumed that having both six analog outputs as well as two analog outputs (as all players do) was specifically to get the stereo mix off the disc to those outputs correctly.I was also assuming that the labels were just playing a little loose with what they put on the disc (sometimes a stereo mix, sometimes not).
Are you telling me that I should tell my Denon that it has a multichannel output and then take only the LR channels? Tell me more please.
“Are you telling me that I should tell my Denon that it has a multichannel output and then take only the LR channel”Yup, just avoid DVD-A’s without stereo mixes. Or if you would still like to be able to listen to downmixes you could use additional inputs on your amp for the 2-channel outputs.
Are you also saying that the L/R channels contain the complete signals of a stereo mix in recordings that have no "stereo mix"? Some of the audio is not removed? And therefore the center channel and surrounds are GENERATED or UNIQUE signals? It's hard to avoid recordings because I seek performance as well as sound . . .
"Are you also saying that the L/R channels contain the complete signals of a stereo mix in recordings that have no 'stereo mix'? "No, Only if you select the stereo track for playback you get the full signal.
Only with certain types of music like classical music with an 'ambiant' surround mix you can use the L R from the multichannel section output. (It's way better to use a multichannel setup though or allow the player to downmix)
You will miss of course the center and rear channal signals. (Which are unique signals in the multichannel mix)Frank
