For starters, here's my list of DVD-As where the 2ch track sounds even better than the 5.1 track:Diana Krall, Love Scenes (the 5.1 track seems to lack detail)
Joni Mitchell, Both Sides Now (the 5.1 track is okay, but the 2.0 track seems to have an extra dimension and realism)
Fourplay, Fourplay (the 2.0 track has much better dynamics)
Grover Washington Jr, Winelight (2.0 track is 192)
Linda Ronstadt, What's New (ditto)
Follow Ups:
On The Beach, Hawks & Doves, American Stars & Bars

Happy listening,
Teresa
Thank you Teresa once again for valuable information. I was wondering about the Arts Wagner release, are sure it has dedicated hirez stereo track? I heard from other source that it had only hirez mch track.
Teresa,I've benefited much from your recommends in the six months I've been visiting here and figured it was time to say thank you! I'm also a two-channel listener and I find my tastes in music and recording quality to be similar to yours so I always appreciate seeing one of your music posts.
I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the Weavers DAD; it's easily the most lifelike recording in my collection of DVD, SACD, and CD. There's something truly uncanny about it.
The Classic Records 192kHz 24 Bit DVD-Audios also play on DVD-Video players on the flip side at 96kHz 24 Bit incase someone reading the above list doesn't yet have a DVD-Audio player.
Hi folks,I'm running a cheap DVD-Video player and I reckon on 96/24 discs it beats/would beat my Musical Fidelity Elektra E600 CD player in overall musicality on just about any CD (haven't listened to my entire CD collection yet...). May not have the refinement or bass, but has more music in there.
Examples of disc with 96/24 2Ch LPCM DVD-Video tracks:
- Neil Young - Greatest Hits (CD + DVD) - DVD-V 96/24 tracks are Very Good, but the up to 35yo tapes were probably deteriorating a bit. Analogue masters except the final 2 tracks (44/16 upconverted). 2004 release. Not DVD-A.
- Neil Young - Prairie Wind (CD + DVD) - DVD-V 96/24 tracks are Excellent. Analogue master. New release. Not DVD-A.
- Queen - The Game (DVD-A) - The DVD-Video 96/24 tracks are very good. Freddie's lisp not always well captured though. Master for the DVD-V stereo track only was "1/4inch analogue mix master" (I assume is the same 2 ch master that would have been used for the original LP and CD releases)(orig 1979/80). FYI - the multichannel DVD-A 96/24 and DTS 96/24 tracks were taken from the original 2 inch analogue multitracks, first to 192/24 then to 96/24. There is no DVD-A 192/24 stereo track though.
- Hootie and the Blowfish - Cracked Rear View (DVD-A) - DVD-Video 96/24 tracks are very good. Voice a trifle fuzzy though. Two-sided disc. Master type not known (orig 1994).
========
- The Best of REM - In Time 1988-2003 (CD + DVD-A) - Does *not* have a DVD-Video track , but I'd like to hear opinions on the apparently 192/24 DVD-A track (192/24 according to one website, but not stated anywhere in or on the disc I could see).
I can play the DD2.0 track - on a quick check sounded generally better than the CD quality to me, except at the top end.
This is an inadequately/confusingly labelled disc imho - front sticker said "Special CD + DVD", while the printing on the back said "DVD-Audio Advanced Resolution Surround and Stereo", no mention of resolution. No mention of master type I could see.
I haven't compared this to some of the other 2-channel DVD-As but I like the music. I mostly listen to it in "that other format" but I'll give the DVD-A version another listen real soon.
Well - I really like Everything Must Go by Steely Dan...
192/24. The 5.1 sounds great as well - however, I think the 2ch is more dynamic. I would recommend this disc to anyone - plus.. I happen to really like the music as well...
Look out for GUS BLACK Uncivilized Love 2003 issue on immergent I picked it up in LA where I think is the only place he has ever been heard of...It does have 5.1 as well..but I wouldnt put some of your items on my list...Santanas Supernatutal is a possibility and Zubin Mehtas Mahler 2..but not Jose Cura Verismo....or N Youngs Greendale,,,
... this is not about whether the music appeals to you or not - it's about whether the 2ch track is sonically good, and perhaps superior to the 5.1 track for some reason (and where possible, state the reason).so discs that don't even have a 2.0 track are inadmissible - which includes some of the titles you have mentioned.
for example, what's new is a good example - the 2.0 track is 192, and is not watermarked, but the 5.1 track is only 96 and watermarked every 30 seconds.
Neil Young - Harvest
. . . the 5.1 is excellent too. (There are many others, but in the Jazz genre I'd heartily recommend this title). You could try some of the AIX titles -- e.g. Luis Conte "Latin Jazz"; Patrice Rushen "Piano, Bass & Drums" trio, plus other AIX.
