What do you think about this release?Advanced Resolution Stereo...
What do they mean in this case? 24bit/48kHz ?
Follow Ups:
Pass on the vinyl. It's pretty noisy and not mastered well. In my opinion this is not a great sounding release in any format, I also have the dual disc, and is not as riveting as her second album. But with Jon L's endorsement I might give it a second chance. My initial impression was that it was over compressed.
I'll have to go check the bitstream rate on those alternate audio tracks. They sounded overly bright to me at first listen, but I need to revist them.I usually don't post here, but I just wanted to say I love this album as much as her first two. "Get Him Back", "O Sailor", "Oh Well", "Red Red Red", "Not About Love" and especially "Please Please Please" are up there with the best material she's ever done, although I will say they are a bit less dramatic and a bit more whimsical in terms of style. I also got to see her perform a full set at Largo with Jon Brion on acoustic guitar and Mike Elizondo on upright bass. Now THAT was brilliant (as well as tear jerking, especially "Paper Bag")...
I thought it sucked.I'm not talking about resolution or anything like that. I'm simply saying the music sucks and the lyrics are laughable.
Stick with her first two albums and maybe check out some Tori Amos instead.
It's no wonder this album took so long to see the light of day. It should have stayed wherever they were hiding it.
The disc is 16bit/48kHz STEREO ONLY, for both the main album and the video tracks. It has no MLP, DTS, DD, etc. Despite the standard audio rate, it sounds very good. IMO, it would have lent itself nicely to a surround mix or higher resoultion stereo treatment. If you are a Fiona fan, then it is worth the small difference in price over the CD version.
Thanks for the info.Except for the videos, this seems like a totally meaningless release.
Maybe I'll get the vinyl LP instead.
At least if the album originally was recorded in analog or hi-rez digital.Does anyone know if that's the case?
16/48 audio can sound very, very good if done right, i.e. not just resampled from 16/44.1 to 16/48.IMO, Fiona Apple CD releases are usually very high-quality sound-quality-wise, and the latest CD is no exception. In fact, a couple of songs have become my vocal reference, 16/44.1 at its best.
