There are indeed two lasers, and it sounds like your guess is correct. The list price for the laser assembly (includes both lasers) is $70, which isn't so bad.The problem is that adjustments are required after replacing the laser. This requires the service manual (RRV2615 -- $33), the service remote control (GGF1381 -- $66, but not sold to the public), and is best done with their test DVD (GGV1025 -- $142) although you might get away with using a regular DVD. (The test DVD has a metallic backing to insure against warping.)
So you really need to take it to an authorized service center. I don't know how much they'll charge. If it's less than $200, you are probably better off fixing it than buying a new one, in my opinion. The DV-45a is a good machine.

Thanks - I've gotten so used to thinking of modern electronics as disposable that the idea of repair never really occured to me. I agree, though - *IF* it's only ~$200-ish I couldn't replace it for that price.
The spindle motor started going bad. The shop replaced the entire motor/optical pickup assembly, because the whole assembly was cheaper than just the motor alone. Total cost, including labor and parts, was $137.

It's Dewey the Clown!Hey Dewey - how come whenever you say you're leaving a forum and never coming back, it always turns out that you're lying?
Oh, and Dewey - I'm going to explain something one last time. Maybe it will finally sink in this time:
You have been making stupid comments in reference to me about the power in your house for about a year now. I'm sure you think you're being funny, but it just makes you look even more clueless and sad. Why do I say this? Because, as I have tried to explain to you several times before:
I HAVE NEVER MADE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THE POWER IN YOUR HOUSE, except to wonder what the hell you were talking about. The person who teased you about house power was Dalton. All you do by addressing me with your blather is make yourself look even dumber (if that's possible).
The real problem seems to be that you've earned so much disrespect here that you can't keep track of all of the people you've insulted and all of the lies and trolls you've posted. So, Dewey, why don't you make your lies into truth by crawling back into your hole? If you can't do that, at least come up with something better to try to attack me with - something related to what I said, instead of what someone else said.
This wasn't meant as a flame or a tease or any sort of insult.DUI breaks more SACD players in a month that the rest of us put together break in a year. My XA-777ES is almost five years old and has had no problems. No one else has had reliability problems of the magnitude that DUI has had.
Bad power is the only logical explanation that I and others can think of as to why DUI has so many problems. Believe it or not, we were really trying to help.
...now the player is flawless, I'm still lovin it.
As noted above, the part itself is $70, so they must have only charged for one hour at $60/hr. Not a bad deal!
