"..In addition, playing a DualDisc in an SCPH-30000 series, SCPH-35000 series, SCPH-39000 series, or SCPH-50000 series PlayStation 2 console while in the vertical position may possibly damage the disc, the console, or both..."It get's into trouble when playing DVD-18 discs according to this quote.
B Moura should seek a clarification from Sony why the diclaimer wasn't published a couple of years ago when the DVD plus CD/DVD format was introduced.
Sa-cd shipments 50% down, lot's of sa-cd players crapping out and now a new competing format. Sony must be very worried.
Follow Ups:
Sony, owner of Columbia Pictures is one of the biggest suppliers of DVD software, both Movies and Music. So DualDisc is a natural for them, too bad for them the format is plagued with so many problems. SACD is a very small percentage of their sales. And the Sony DualDiscs along with most DualDiscs will not have DVD-Audio. I believe DualDisc was an attempt by Sony to destroy DVD-Audio that is why they fought and won to only allow DVD-Audio as an option. As manufactures switched to DualDisc and started leaving off the DVD-Audio option or severely lowering it's resolution to keep up the Video and options Sony will be offering with their DualDiscs, DVD-Audio will have died.
But with all the problems of DualDisc Sony's plans to destory DVD Audio are now foiled and DVD-Audio will have a fighting chance. The sooner DualDisc dies the better it will be for DVD-Audio!
Sorry... That message number is not valid.
"Sony must be really worried" Yeah, right.
Every now and then Sony tries something new....memory stick for example. If it catches on they make money, if not they join everyone else.Sony doesnt have a "love" for one format or another. They do what is in their financial interest.
"B Moura should seek a clarification from Sony why the diclaimer wasn't published a couple of years ago when the DVD plus CD/DVD format was introduced."This is an easy one. The disclaimer came from SCEA (Sony Computer Entertainment America ). DVDPlus was never officially introduced into the US.
there will be more announcements by other manufacturers very soon. It's inevitable given the legal issues that could arise by not doing so.
See High Fidelity Review for the statement they are making to their customers.
.
just kidding, this just kills me :-).
(yes easily amused)

I mean besides unscrupulously whacking people in the back..:-) how do you get the gif in the body of the text? Ive been trying to copy and paste the "source" code...nothing.
other than that insert the image as the URL for the image in the bottom of the post, works every time.dee

The problem is that Dual Disc does not have consumer electronics champions like SACD and DVD-A has. It is pushed by the media makers. The electronics companies are not going to go out on a limb to save the RIAAs behind.
should Warner be worried when a Sony Playstation gets damaged by a Sony Music DualDisc?
You are hopeless...Warner Music should be worried about the current and future announcements from manufacturers about DualDisc compatibility problems in their equipment. No doubt they are.
Do you understand that or do I have to break out the crayons...
Isn't Sony is one of the company's scheduled to put out Dual Discs? If so, it seems like Sony is shooting themselves in the foot here...Also, I think Frank's point is valid. It seems to me that Sony is shooting themselves in the foot by admitting their hardware can't handle discs whose thickness is in spec. Why should anybody buy their hardware if its not designed properly?
...the DualDisc format does not appear to adhere to thickness specifications according to my measurements .Specifications for a dual-layer disc are: 1.20 + 0.30 or 1.20 - 0.06 mm.

.
It seems my T2 se DVD-18 is out of spec then.
It's much thicker.

Sony Music is a participant in DualDisc. Sony Electronics is a whole different company. It's not just Sony Electronics who announced compatibility issues with DualDisc. Pioneer also has as will others shortly. The burden is not on the manufacturers of the players but on Warner and the DVD Forum. Keep in mind that there are no known compatibility issues with 'standard' DVD and Redbook CD in any of the players that are mentioned in the DualDisc compatibility announcements. The problem is the non-compliant Redbook implementation and thickness issues of DualDisc.
According to the DVD Forum, it's an RIAA "format." Warner is just one of the players.
Too many people do that here. It's not Warner's exclusive format. Most of the big players have signed up for it. Warner's just the first to get anything out.
