This is one of those things that's a real pain in the butt with DVD-A if you don't have it hooked up to a TV or monitor. If it's hooked up to a TV, just activate the main menu of the disk and select the two-channel group (if present). If it's not hooked up to a TV, use the Search Mode button to toggle to the "Group Search" mode. You should see "Group" turn on and off on the display as you press the Search Mode button repeatedly. Then press a number key on the numeric keypad to choose the group number. This usually requires some experimentation, as there is inconsistent behavior with different disks as to which group is which. I think the Search Mode button only changes the search mode when the player is in the stop mode, but I don't remember exactly. I had a 2900 but it's not hooked up in my system now, so I can't try it. I rarely used this method as I had it hooked up to a TV. Good luck.
Follow Ups:
hit 'stop', and then hit, for example, "2 1 play" - that will do Group 2, Track 1. - From what I've seen, Group 2 is -usually- the stereo group, if there is one on the disc.
Michi, I see you're a classic rock fan. What SACDs or DVD-A disks do you have that are classic rock? I just got my player and bought The Police Synchronicity, Neil Young Harvest (see my other post...), and the Allman Brothers at Filmore East. I think they all sound better than I have heard before.
Most recently, Allman Brothers "Eat A Peach" for SACD - and honestly I think that Eagles "Hotel California" is the best DVD-A out there yet. I STRONGLY reccomend that one.America's "Homecoming" is good, too- It's best to just ask me, since I probably have it if it's out there. No sense in just listing them all. :)
I've got a LOT more than that -- I'm practically in line tonight to get the Clapton SACDs tomorrow.
I'll have to pick up all of those. Which Clapton records are coming out? I'm curious about these: Aerosmith Toys in the Attic, Dave Alvin Blackjack David, Oasis What's the Story Morning Glory, and Alice in Chains Greatest Hits. Ever heard these?
Also check out the Grateful Dead "Workingman's Dead" and "American Beauty" on DVD-A. "Workingman's Dead" especially is a huge improvement over the original CD and LP.circuitcity.com in the Music section allows you to search for high-res titles. See the link below.
I would endorse both Grateful Dead titles as well. Very nicely done, MUCH better than the CD on both counts, in my opinion.
I'll have to pick up a copy of working man's dead. I saw that one last weekend at my local cd shop. American Beauty is another must have. Do you have the dark side of the moon sacd?
