... is it not supposed to? I haven't gotten it to not play in anything yet....Are you guys sure that the "Won't play in XA777ES" thing isn't some kind of rumor someone started?

Unless their XA777 is different from mine, which is possible.
in either of those players. Very weird. My XA777ES is stock, but has been fixed once by Sony where they had to replace the laser assembly. My C333ES is also stock, never needing repair.
Two different DualDiscs (Donnas and Simple Plan) won't play in either, making horrible mechanical noises when trying. The real kicker is that the DualDiscs won't even play in my daughter's plain old CD boombox (my daughter, 10 years old, purchased the Simple Plan DualDisc with her own money).
I had mine on repeatin my XA777ES last night for a few hours, just to see. It's been playing fine...
Could be - especially since we're told that Dual Discs are "on the edge" of the CD spec. The other question is whether the DDs that play OK on the CD side today will do so later on when they get dusty and pick up a scratch or two. Philips says their testing suggests that will be an issue according to the story on the Audioholics web site.
