In Reply to: I noticed that Vinyl is further to the "left", and Tape is the furthes on the "right" of the chain posted by Christine Tham on October 25, 2004 at 14:01:42:
As we move through analog stages, eventually regressing towards 'rock' ie solid minerals.I'm surprised no one mentioned that 'Critics' are at the beginning of the evolutionary ladder, which makes perfect sense to me :)

Follow Ups:
if you look at the three rows, they kind of divide into:Top Row: the fundamental, really important stuff, like amps, speakers, vinyl :-)
Middle Row: the "B" team, including all digital, tape, tuners, etc.
Bottom Row: the "ghetto" including film, video, water coolers, inmate systems ...and they roughly map in terms of "importance" reading from top to bottom, left to right ...
digital is classified as more important than hi-rez, which makes sense since "digital" is generic and potential includes new, higher rez formats than either SACD or DVD-A
...then I would think music (all forms) would have to be at the top :-).
