In Reply to: There are lots of 1970's Quadraphonic masters in the vaults that should be released on DVD-A , and could be released ... posted by ZS KEKL on April 19, 2004 at 12:17:00:
Were it that easy...Those old quad releases were mixed and created with old technology, they would not sound their best without another remaster - it would compare in a similar way to using an older LaserDisc master for a new DVD release.
With all the new technology making all sorts of higher resolution/lower noise transfers possible, the newer better quality format would unmask a whole series of problems that were not seen or heard under the older standard.

Whilst I appreciate and agree mostly with you, just listen to the SACD MCH mix of Tubular Bells. There's a quad mix with grace and elegance, not to mention extremely good fidelity, all the way back from '74.
Cheers,
Paul.
how 'bout all of those glorious analogue master tapes from the 50s and 60s?
And don't forget the O'Jays Ship Ahoy on Surround SACD. Derived from the '70s analog discrete 4 channel master tapes and sound great !
