The 176.4/24 stereo is stunning! Personally, I think that 48/24 is a good choice for the LPCM as well because it is better than CD and shouldn't cause problems with any DVD-V setup. Now if we could just have another 200 or so classic rock albums remastered this way.
Follow Ups:
I agree! Just bought it, American Stars and Bars and Hawks and Doves.
On the beach and Hawks and doves sound best to me. Way to go neil!

I agree. I think one of the main reasons DVD-A and SACD remasters are being released so slowly is because of the time/expense of the multichannel mixes. Surely there are many digital masters at 24/96 and up that have been made for recent CD reissues that could be easily turned into DVD-As.
in 4.0 , as originally mixed , without the expense for remixing to 5.1 .
Were it that easy...Those old quad releases were mixed and created with old technology, they would not sound their best without another remaster - it would compare in a similar way to using an older LaserDisc master for a new DVD release.
With all the new technology making all sorts of higher resolution/lower noise transfers possible, the newer better quality format would unmask a whole series of problems that were not seen or heard under the older standard.
Whilst I appreciate and agree mostly with you, just listen to the SACD MCH mix of Tubular Bells. There's a quad mix with grace and elegance, not to mention extremely good fidelity, all the way back from '74.
Cheers,
Paul.
how 'bout all of those glorious analogue master tapes from the 50s and 60s?
And don't forget the O'Jays Ship Ahoy on Surround SACD. Derived from the '70s analog discrete 4 channel master tapes and sound great !

(Stars/Bars, Hawks/Doves) and also relisten to the stereo hi-rez of Harvest. I personally can't stand the Harvest mch, but have forgotten how well the stereo hir-rez layer has been received.
...except I can't play the damn Harvest hi-rez stereo layer. It skips and mistracks (tracks 7 and beyond)on my and many other (see Harvest thread below) player. ARGH!!!
