I am purchasing the Bryston B60R with built in 24/96 DAC with good jitter reduction. I need a transport that will pass 24/96 on all possible discs, and play redbook CD as well. Also, it would be nice if it did SACD playback too. What are my least expensive options for such an animal? Or should I just get a Toshiba 3950/60 and a stand-alone SACD?
Note that I have not heard any differences from transports, so I don't really care about paying for transport quality. (If this is important to you, please don't take these comments as a critique, it is just something I don't want to pay for.)
Follow Ups:
Does this Bryston B60R have a firewire/iLink input? You'll need it for DVD-A and SACD.
I thought DVD-A was passed in the 24/96 via the traditional coaxial output (unless its resolution is down regulated for certain protected discs).Am I missing something? SACD I understand is a different animal, but I thought DVD-A would have compatible PCM output for most purposes.
I won't be able to pass any DVD-A or SACD signals to an external DAC without a firewire connection. Right now I would just have to use the player's internal DACs into the analog inputs.
Well, most of the DVD-A discs force the player to downsample to 48KHz at the regular, coaxial/toslink, digital outputs.
