I see posts here from not that long ago that this was to be released on 3/24/04 as a 2 disc dvd-a. Red Trumpet still shows it in pre-order status, but has not release date. Is this available yet? And is it really necessary that it be on 2 discs? I understand the reason the hybrid SACD had to be over 2 discs, but if this is just a dvd-a, couldn't it all fit on one?
Follow Ups:
This seems to be a common industry practice these days. Add a few really irrelevant extra tracks so the release can conveniently be expanded onto two discs and the consumer be charged twice the price. There's quite a few classic rock albums that all existed on single compact discs (e.g. The Who's 'Tommy', Bob Dylan's 'Blonde On Blonde', Frampton 'Comes Alive', Elton John 'GBYRBR'), yet when it came to issue them on high-rez they were all expanded.
Whatever happened to honoring the original art form? It's all about $$$ today, I'm really not surprised more and more people are turned off by such industry practices and resort to digital downloads..

The 2nd disc of the Elton John GBYBR Deluxe Edition is a full DVD-Video that is the complete "Classic Album" DVD (from the series) on the making of this album. It's a great companion piece to this release. You could buy this 2nd disc separately on Amazon, but it would cost you $22 just for this DVD. Read the reviews of this second disc on Amazon, and then tell me we are "padding" this release.Jim
Cool. This will be just the thing for my dad's next b'day present. While I'm not really an Elton fan, he is. And he also likes music DVD-Vs in general. Now his Pioneer (646A) player is DVD-Audio compatible, so this A/V package makes perfect sense.
...why should I be forced to buy it again? What's wrong with just wanting the basic product (without padding)? What's even worse is the approach that some DualDiscs have taken, which essentially include abridged versions of companion DVD's...

The "basic product" as your refer to it has already been released - on CD. This is the "Deluxe Edition." On DVD-A.Deluxe Editions include extra material. That's why they are called "Deluxe." People like the extra content. That's why the label puts it on. People are more inclined to purchase if they feel they get a lot of content for their money.
And as far as I know, no one is "forcing you" to buy anything. You can buy or not buy, the choice is entirely up to you. If you are so concerned about the extra few dollars, you should sell the Classic Album disc you already own. I bet you will come out ahead in the deal.
Jimby,Congratulations on releasing the 2-disc SACD as a single disc DVD-Audio, and also throwing in the DVD-Video as a second disc (i.e. reducing 3 discs to 2). There are those of us who "get it" and those that don't. Please don't get flustered by the latter group, they are a minority I hope.
I also don't understand this "forcing me to do xxx" concept. People think they are owed the world on a plate, and in fact too much choice can be a bad thing for many...
Cheers,
Paul.
Does it have the same tracklisting as the SACD, meaning does it have the extra tracks that were tacked on there? And does it come with the Making of dvd? Maybe that is why its 2 discs instead of just one.
