In Reply to: new DVD-A authoring/mastering option!!!!! posted by Denis Powell on March 31, 2004 at 20:01:31:
If it's true, it sounds good to me... and it will appeal to tens of thousands of Steinberg users out there,
So hopefully we should see home studio and independent projects appear this year... the fun part begins!(but be careful Denis, with one post every 6 months on DVD Audio World, we don't want you to get overworked :)

Follow Ups:
This is what is written on the Steinberg Forum "Wavelab"Steinberg announces WaveLab 5
Steinberg have announced Wavelab 5, now offering full multi-channel surround support and DVD Audio mastering and authoring, WaveLab 5 will ship to Steinberg resellers from 19th April, 2004, and will cost €699.00 EUR.WaveLab 5 encompasses a full set of DVD Audio mastering and authoring tools. Among the new capabilities included is support for up to eight audio channels throughout the entire signal chain for recording, editing, processing and mastering. The DVD Audio burning capabilities also include video data; WaveLab 5 also offers DVD Audio extraction, conversion, and archiving. More DVD Audio-specific features include an extensive DVD Audio authoring toolset, including Playlist editing, on-screen video menu design, picture slide shows, and DVD text.
The range of new capabilities encompasses not only DVD Audio, but aims to offer additional capabilities within the stereo and multi-channel audio domain. A new "Smart" Video Thumbnail Track for editing audio for video is included, as is support for track based insert effects, multi-channel metering, and support for Steinberg Surround Edition plug-ins.
Does this mean the ability to rip tracks from (unprotected) DVD-As?
Yes, apparently, according to the review guide posted by Mathias above, there's a DVD audio "grabber" that allows extraction of unprotected DVD-AsI wonder if it requires a DVD-A player on the PC to work, or if you can simply extract the files... Since there's a preview option, the Wavelab software could act as a DVD-A player?
Anyway, it looks like a great product !!!

I wonder if/when MLP will fit in to this package. I've been playing around with Steinberg's Cubase SX and so far like it alot. I've not used Wavelab though.
Confirmation? Click the links on the DVD-AUDIOWORLD news page. These are Steinberg and their parent company pages.
Yes Eric, One post in 6 months but what about all the previous posts?
check the news archive! Not bad for a one man part time self funded
Non advertising labour of love if I say so myself. Imagine what I could do If I was in a position to do dvd-audioworld only and not have to gig 5 or 6 days a week as well (away from the computer!).
I do take your point however about the lack of updating lately but at this stage It could do with some funding. Any takers??
Didn't think so.
I was just teasing you,I have read both links, and there are a few things that puzzled me especially this part: ****complete set of DVD Audio mastering and authoring tools. The DVD Audio burning capabilities also include video data, DVD Audio extraction, conversion, and archiving. ***
I have seen many documents with "DVD Audio" (no hyphen) referring to audio on a DVD, and I wondered about the "DVD Audio extraction, conversion and archiving"... maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like DVD Audio, not DVD-Audio
But the other document is a lot more precise, and says "DVD-A authoring", so... you should be right.
Since it's scheduled for this month, we should get some feedback pretty soon.

PS: I know a website is a lot of work and quite a bit of money, that's exactly why I didn't start one ;)
