Are there any DVDI or HDMI equipped upscaling DVD-A/V players available in the ~ $400 to ~$600 price range at the moment?
Follow Ups:
The not-yet-released Samsung 941
Eh, if you really want a good looking, up-scaling DVD player, you have to move up to the DVD5900 Denon or higher. My personal favorite right now is the Meridian. Unreal how good that thing looks. But these cheapy deals.....well, I was sorry I got one. I thought I would save a little by buying one, but I didnt, I ended up with the Denon and then the Meridian. And Im happy with both, the Samsung unit I bought (last gen model) was given to my son, but he went blind, so now its just useless. And we had the fish for dinner, why?
Then there's the questions that still remain about Samsung's previous ineptitude with the HD931 and whether or not they will correct it in the HD841/941 models.Regarding the HD931:
#1 The Faroudja DCDi chip has several settings. Samsung selected the maximum setting on this chip, which causes exaggerated edge enhancement on larger displays.
#2 The DVI-HDCP output was made to output the incorrect digital PC standard signals (0 - 255, no below black and no above white), instead of the correct digital video standard signals (16 - 235, allows for below black and above white).
Both are deal breakers in a DVD player. Will they correct both of these flaws? We'll find out in Q3 2004.
What about the Pioneer 868AVi?
