Wondering if anyone has listened to the disc yet? What are your impressions? Please describe the Surround mix? Is the stereo significantly better than the CD?

See http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/dvda/messages/11599.html - this title will only playback in Dolby Digital on my Pioneer 563a unit.
I own the dts-CD. The surround mix is absolutely brilliant! This is the only surround disc I know, on which a straight back panned solo instrument doesn't sound "weird" (the sax on gaucho).A typical Elliot Scheiner mix - if you know Donald Fagen's "Nightfly" or "Kamakiriad" you will know, what you can expect. The sound is really surrounding you - but in a tasty, musical way...
But I heard that Gaucho should be remixed for surround again for SACD. So I don't know, whether this is true, and if, which surround mix will be on the DVD-A...
cheers,
A quick correction...the DTS 5.1 mix and the DVD-A 5.1 mix of Gaucho are two different mixes. They are both by Elliot Scheiner, but were done years apart. The DVD-A mix is the more recent of the two.

If universal is putting out music DVD's why do they not include a hi-rez DVD-A layer, say stereo as well. Would this fit? It would sure give a boost to sales as for myself, I am always looking for music DVD's but I am put off by the sound quality of DD and DTS. Too compressed in most cases, other than how AIX manages to get superior sound. I am sure that a full surround layer would not fit on conventional discs. I see the next step in probably HDDVD as it is backwards compatible with DVD versus blu-ray which is not.Anyway, would be nice to see more DVD-A options on many of the music DVD's now being offered.
I would imagine that few record companies are interested in putting hi-rez audio on what is essentially an unprotected format.
But pirates aren't interested in the hirez. Rather, it's the easy_on_the_bandwidth AC3 stuff which they like to copy (so they can use it via internet, ipod etc. ).
Jimby,I had a distinct impression that the Sting and Marvin Gaye titles were using the same mix as the DTS release, can you confirm if that is the case? (the Sting DVD-Audio obviously has differnces, since one track has been moved to the end as a mystery track, but the rest seems identical)
Also, I have been comparing "Let's Get It On" DVD-Audio with the SACD, and found some minor differences in the stereo versions, but the same MCH mix... I will be doing a full review of all three MG titles, so can you give some information about the sources and mixes used, at least through private mail?

PS: the authoring of the Let's Get It On DVD-Audio still has a few glitches, but the layout and the bonuses are simply great!
Sting- Brand New Day and Marvin Gaye- Collection use the same multichannel mix that the DTS discs have. Of course, they are in PCM on the DVDA discs.I am not sure what changes were made to the stereo audio (if any) for Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On. On our DVDA the stereo mix is 192/24. My first thought is that both the SACD and the DVDA use the same stereo master, but it is possible we did a separate master for the PCM. I will check.
Same master for the stereo Marvin Gaye LGIO DVDA and SACD. Or so I am told.
I think it was my mistake and I was listening to the wrong section, I'll look into it.This is not meant as flattery, but the DVD-Audio of LGIO sounds truly superb, and the stereo version is outstanding (the SACD is not bad either :), this is great for anyone who was tired of the original CD of this album, it sounds like new...
The graphics are excellent, true to the original 1970s style, and some "fresh" pictures have been included (the studio even corrected the coulours of his "ultra-red" sweat suit :)
Definitely one of my top 20 DVD-Audio titles!
