I have a RDV-1060 and would agree completely with your assessment. It is great for DVD-A and DVD-V but OK for CD playback. I have a Modwright XA-777ES for CD and SACD, a Micromega DAC hooked to several things and while older still makes CDs sound great and a Pioneer Elite CD Recorder. All are quite a but better than the RDV-1060 for CD playback in my opinion. The Rotel is not a bat transport if one wants an outboard DAC.

many thanks will audition rotel 1072 this weekend
FYI - Rotel has bought a transport for a universal player. I talked to the Rotel person at a seminar at a local hi-fi shop almost a month ago. They are designing it. It could be out in as soon as another 4 mos. or longer depending on what happens. It should be interesting. If you read the answers to this post there are some opinions and info as to why dedicated CD players are often better - http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/dvda/messages/11443.html
Remember tho as you may have missed it in the previous posts. The RCD 1072 is a CD only player. No DVD No SACD No DVD-Audio. I'm going to audition one this week as I am looking for a good CD player.
...site and scope it for info, thankyou.
