If you own the Pioneer 563A you won't be able to play the Hi-Rez tracks on the following Warners DVD-A
T.Rex
Neil Young/Greendale
Brian Wilson/Live
Follow Ups:
My Technics A10 displays the hirez stereo mix as 24/96.(also, the A10 will only play the MC mix of Dave Edmunds "Pile of Rock".)
Yes, only 24/96, not 24/192 as box says
.
Electric Warrior on DVD-Audio
back up plans rule!
I won't buy the Warner releases that I can't play on my machine, but like you pointed out at least you still can play them unlike the SACDs I have bought and watched crack and flaked till they are unplayable.
I have about 170+ SACDs and none of them have cracked or flaked and all play fine on my SCD-1, with the lone exception being FIM's 1st Gen. Reference IV sampler, which can hiccup from time to time.I haven't bought one of my 15 DVDA discs so I could play it in DD or DTS, for what it's worth.
You may wish to contact Pioneer to see if there is a firmware upgrade. There are compromises in most universal players. That is why in my main system I have separate hi-rez players and will do the same in the basement when I finish it (already have a DVD-A player). I have a universal player (DV-47A) in the bedroom system that feeds other places via a speaker switcher and I have ltd. space. DVD authoring is a bit different from the std. put in and push play like the CD format and that is why some of us like the SACD format since it is like CD in that regard with higher fidelity. Has Pioneer even put a group button on the remote yet? Their past players have not been the most user friendly for either DVD-A or SACD (when one needs to go into a menu to determine what portion of a hybrid is to be played). Some of Warner's releases before the above allowed the use of the audio button (via the way they were authored) to toggle between the mixes. Have you tried this?
My DV-563 will not play the 24/192 stereo mixes of the DVD-audio titles that i have tried. Makes a nasty crackling noise.
I have the same problem - noise coming from the centre speaker on 24/192 stereo DVD-Audio. This seems to be a common problem with the 563a, but only if your speakers are set to 'small'. I've seen similar complaints on other boards.
I have two Pioneer 563-A players. The stock one I use for video, and
my APL Hi-Fi player I use in my stereo system. BOTH players play my
24/192 DVD's, with no "nasty crackling noises." I suspect you have a problem with your machine.
Hello billbarc,I know this is a bit off-topic in the thread, but can you provide a few comments (or more :) on the APL HiFi modded player for DVD-Audio playback?
Best
