This is more concrete than the strong rumors that Warner is dropping DVD-A.

there's some guy that regularly lists their big SS monobloc amps over on Audiogon. $40k a pair. You should see Denon's separate transport and DAC from the same series. All sand cast chassises, huge multiple power supplys, really SOTA. So making a top notch SACD player isn't anything to get all hot and bothered about. As a company who has recorded music on their own label, Denon is aware of all the Japanese SACDs out there, so it's not really surprising.

I would think universal players are going to be the norm from most cos. except for Sony in the near term. I think they likely wanted to make a statement piece. Most unversal players use the video bitstream as the clock for CDs vs. having a separate clock. Having everything in one chassis makes for economies but not necessarily for the best performance. I have separate players in my main system, a universal in the bedroom system that feeds multiple places (not critical listening) and I should be done with my basement soon, have my DVD-A player and will buy a separate SACD player for down there.
