for the Legacy II
I've had these speakers for 14 years and just recently replaced the foam surrounds. I wish everyone had an opportunity to listen to these classics. I think they would impress many of you. The 10" Acoustic Suspension woofers produced very strong crisp base that extends down to below 40hz. The tweeters are airy without being harsh, shrill or beamy.
Their sound was called the "New England" sound in their day. That "New England" sound was characterized by strong bass and natural sounding highs that were slightly rolled off at the extreme top end. I have these speakers positioned on either side of my fireplace. The sound projects out of the boxes to create a natural sound stage between. The effect is really quite astounding. Percussion really jumps out of the speakers to create images in the air. Male and female voices project the performers within the fireplace. Their naturual sound will not become fatiguing with extended listening. I simply love them!!
These speakers are undervalued and under appreciated. You can find these "used" on eBay for $20 to $75 per pair. I highly recommend them as great restoration projects. Foam surrounds, re-coning kits, entire speaker replacments including both tweeters and woofers are available at simplyspeakers.com.
Product Weakness: They're old fashioned and might seem out of place in a home theater system. I love them in my HT though. Product Strengths: Crisp Strong Bass, Natural but airy highs, strong imaging
