Mods for Technics SL-1700 MK2 and is it better than SL-1200?

Hi all,

love my new SL-1700 MK2. I believe it's more appropriate for home use thanks to the double suspension system and the TNRC base. never knew technics made a suspended deck until i found this puppy.

WOW, the sound is just so dynamic and exciting. even when comparing to the original sota saphire i've been borowing. however, not too sure about the condition of the sota. seems to work fine, but who knows? has a sumiko arm on it. swapped headshell to compare both on same cartridge (nothing fancy, adc xlm MK11 with new stylus).

anyway, i implore people who rip on SL-1200s because they are fixed base to try a suspended technics. true, the platter is part of the motor, so rumble can't quite as good as a belt drive, but -56 db ain't bad. the the dynamics and pacing are just awesome when you have a high torque quartz locked brushless DC motor working it's magic.

next, i love tweaking. what are some mods? KAB arms? am i stuck with the stock arm or can i swap it out? i thin i'm stuck with it.

lastly, it came with a knock off headshell. what do i gain by buying a real technics headshell?

thanks,
Robby
