Re: Linn Ekos vs Ittok?

Hey:
Yes the Ekos is better than the Ittok as it should be
as it costs way more even used. I was reminded of this
while listening to a friends LP12/Lingo/ Ekos recently.
Although he was using the original bearing which admitedly
has a slighlty different sound than post Cirkus Lp12's
I was struck by how big and "serene" the Ekos is compared
to the Ittok. It's slightly more controlled in the extremes
which depending on the cartridge used or LP Played can be
a big difference. As to wether the differences are worthwhile
depends on your tastes, system and the depth of your pockets.
My .02$ is that the Cirkus, better power supplies and proper
setup and tuning give bigger bang for buck overall. I would have
that all sorted out before dropping the big $ on a Ekos.

My thoughts are if you can snag an Ittok that's in good condition
for $400-600 U.S. especially the later LVII w/solid Cweight or
an LVIII then it's a no brainer IMO. LVIII's are pretty rare
here in the States and starting to creep up $ wise though the
performance is pretty close to Ekos level overall. The Ittok
gives a lot of bang for the buck and I use a later LVII myself.

The Ekos's that have problems to my knowledge
are the very early run pre ser#7000 as I recall and
from what I've heard some never develop problens at
all so it varies. Hope this helps.
Tony
