Dear Fellow Inmates,I picked-up at a swap-meet this weekend, for the princely sum of $10, a circa 1962~63 Allied Knight kit KG-60 (earliest all SS amp of about 17/17w opt)int. amp and KG-70 FM/AM tuner. After the ritual of Deoxit cleaning and variac, the tuner plays OK, but the amp has a loud "rushing" noise coming from its left channel. The unit has 20 transistors and 4 diodes in it and the opt transistors are on the bottom cover of the unit. I tapped these with a pencil eraser, but no difference in noise level. Any ideas as to where to look on this one ~ I'm quite sure there is not schematic for this ancient piece! What about using that Radio Shack Freeze Spray can on individual components to perhaps find the culprit. Usually, bad caps present hum type problems and bad resistors a rushing noise (???)
Let me know What you think,
Thanks,
Byzen
